The Vacuums & More Story

Our Story Begins

One summer, in 2005, our CEO Lawrence Croll took up door-to-door vacuum sales while home from college. Little did he know that what was supposed to be a quick summer job would turn into his life’s passion. Trained and guided by his mentors, he was able to master the art of the demo, the most crucial part of a door-to-door sales pitch. Convincing customers, who weren’t even thinking about their vacuums ten minutes ago, to purchase a new one requires a quick, clear presentation that shows the product’s superiority. It needs a “Wow!” factor.

Our CEO quickly became aware, however, of the limitations to door-to-door sales. Since everything was based out of a van and lacked a physical facility, after-sales service and repairs were non-existent. Likewise, the limited space meant that the vans carried only one model, limiting customer choice; if the customer’s needs weren’t met by that specific model, they were out of luck. The one-time nature of door-to-door sales meant that Lawrence and his team often had to apply uncomfortable amounts of sales pressure to close their deal. Finally, if the sale was made, but spare bags, filters, or other tools weren’t included, our CEO realized the customers weren’t getting the ful benefit of the products. 

Getting a job at his local vacuum shop solved these issues; it had larger selection, and it provided exceptional after-sales service. These advantages, coupled with Lawrence Croll’s skill in product demos, ignited the magic. Merging the best of both worlds allowed Vacuums & More to become the premiere vacuum shop in the area. And in 2015, ten years after starting on this journey, Lawrence  purchased the store for himself.

Today, a third business model joins the door-to-door sales and on-site demonstrations: online retail. This offers advantages that the other sales approaches lack; convenience, 24/7 availabilty, and a wealth of information at the customer’s fingertips to review at their own pace. However, it also lacks the personal touch that in-store shopping provides. As we enter this new era of retail, Vacuums & More will continue to do what it has always done; we will innovate, combining the best of the past with the best of the future, all to offer the ultimate customer experience.
